EPD 75 post consumer aluminium marine EPD HUB-3727 - Flipbook - Side 7
Transport and Installation (A4-A5)
Please note that this module has not been included within the system boundaries.
Product Use and Maintenance (B1-B7)
This EPD does not cover the use stage.
Air, soil, and water impacts during the use phase have not been studied. The declared Reference
Service Life (RSL) is 50 years, as stated by the manufacturer. There is no functional or aesthetic
degradation of the product under normal indoor use conditions.
Product End of Life (C1-C4, D)
The ceiling system is designed for modularity and can often be dismantled without damage.
In C1 (deconstruction), ceiling panels are removed manually or with minimal mechanical support.
An average deconstruction energy consumption of 0.01 kWh per kg is assumed, primarily from
diesel-powered equipment (Bozdağ and Seçer, 2007).
In C2 (transport), dismantled ceiling components are transported to regional waste treatment or
recycling facilities.
During C3 (waste processing), aluminium ceilings and steel substructure elements are sorted and
sent to material-specific recycling streams. It is assumed that 90% of the aluminium is recycled,
while the remaining portions are landfilled. Acoustic felt and adhesive residues are typically
incinerated. Glass wool insulation is assumed to be non-recyclable and is sent to landfill or
incineration, depending on local infrastructure.
In C4 (disposal), all unrecyclable components are disposed of in accordance with local regulations,
using either landfill or thermal treatment.
Module D accounts for the environmental benefits of recycling aluminium and steel. These benefits
are reported as credits in the life cycle assessment, representing the avoided impacts of producing
equivalent amounts of primary metals. While glass wool is not credited due to low recycling
potential, the high recyclability of metals contributes significantly to the overall circularity and
reduced environmental impact of the system.
Packaging waste is assumed to follow standard European treatment pathways:
Plastic: 40% recycled, 37% incinerated, 23% landfilled.
Wooden pallets: 32% recycled, 30% incinerated, 38% landfilled.
Cardboard: 83% recycled, 8% incinerated, 9% landfilled.
