Porous Absorbers
Porous absorbers consist of fibers that vibrate when struck by sound waves. This movement converts sound energy
into heat, effectively reducing reverberation.
A good example of a space filled with porous absorbers is a clothing store. Here, the fabric on racks absorbs sound,
creating a noticeably different acoustic environment compared to other retail spaces. The clothing acts as a natural
sound absorber, significantly shortening the reverberation time.
As shown in the illustration below, porous absorbers are effective across most frequency ranges, except for low
frequencies.
