The first contract for the panels came via the Copenhagen
architect and inspector of Royal buildings, Svenn Eske Kristensen, who was redesigning the upmarket Julius Kopp
men’s outdoor clothing store at Amagertorv on Strøget.
He had initially specified American-designed Sanacoustic
panels made by Otto V. Jensen for the project but, following
a visit from Dæmpa’s salesman, Harry Schrøder, he decided instead to use its new product.
A complication was that the perforated panels were to conceal the shop’s heating and ventilation system, which was to
be installed in the void above the suspended ceiling. To
allow warmed air to circulate, the panels below the vents
were to be supplied without the usual mineral wool and silk
paper backing, which resulted in them getting quickly discoloured by accumulated ambient dust. The Dæmpa salesmen had hoped to use the shop as an exemplar of the new
ceiling design in successful use, but instead the dirt patches
meant that it became a warning of what could happen if a
client decided to miss out the recommended backing materials.
