Shortly after, a large contract was gained from the well-established investment house Østifternes Kreditforening
which had been forced by the Copenhagen city authorities
to build a new corporate headquarters to supersede its
existing elegant neoclassical-style premises. These were to
be demolished to make way for the widening of H.C. Andersens Boulevard so that the traffic flow could be increased.
The architects Christian, Erik and Aage Holst were required
to build the new offices behind the existing ones so that,
upon their completion in 1958, the company’s staff could
transfer directly across and the old building could then be
torn down.
The building, which today houses Realdania’s headquarters, has since undergone a careful renovation with a focus
on preserving as many of its original details as possible –
including the original Dæmpa acoustic ceilings.
