For promotional material, a cartoon-like black and white cat
was devised by an Aarhus-based marketeer, Sylvester
Hviid, alongside the slogan ‘as quiet as a cat’s paws’. Fischer also involved himself in selling the product, visiting
Denmark’s best-known architects to interest them in its use.
Although eyebrows no doubt were raised at his sheer chutzpah, his approach was to prove highly effective.
As Fischer owned the patent for his design, he also had a
strong vested interest in its success because, alongside his
regular salary, he was paid a small percentage of the value
of all sales. When Det Fyenske Trælastkompagni’s directors
had agreed to this arrangement, they had not foreseen how
successful his designs would become but, being respectable wholesalers, they accepted their contract with him and,
besides, they too earned well from the growing popularity of
Dæmpa ceilings among architects and builders.
