One of Det Fyenske Trælastkompagni’s directors, Lange
Nielsen (whose son had invented the Dæmpa name), suggested that a company in Skanderborg in Jutland, owned
by other members of his family, could drill the fibre board
sheets. A local joinery firm in Odense by the name of Poulsen was recruited to cut the panels to the required size. This,
of course, meant transporting them a distance of approximately 130 kilometres from one workshop to the other,
which was hardly ideal.
Nonetheless, Det Fyenske Trælastkompagni persevered
and the first panels were launched in 1951. When that happened, the two established Danish suppliers of acoustic
ceilings, Ikas and Otto V. Jensen (the latter making American-designed Sanacoustic panels under license) cut their
prices with the outcome that achieving profitability in the first
few years was a struggle.
Fortunately, Det Fyenske Trælastkompagni had recruited a
pair of skilful salesmen, Otto Møller and Harry Schrøder,
who split the country between them, travelling far and wide
to visit potential customers.
