Since its beginnings in post-war Denmark, the company has grown from a modest manufacturer into the leading
international specialist in metal solutions for architecture and interiors on land and at sea.
For 75 years, DAMPA has helped shape spaces where people work, learn, travel and connect - always with the
ambition of integrating function, aesthetics and technology.
But this is not merely a story of growth and milestones; it is a story about rethinking materials and about the roles of
ceilings in contemporary building design and ship interiors. Working closely with architects, engineers and designers, DAMPA has contributed to some of the most notable buildings in Denmark and beyond.

About the author
Bruce Peter is the Professor of Design History in the Glasgow School of Art’s School of Design. He is half-Danish
and his research interests encompass architecture and design history, maritime history and design for transport
and leisure.
He has written histories of the naval architecture firm Knud E Hansen, of the Danish Maritime Museum and of DFDS
for its 150th anniversary.
His recent publications include Jet Age Hotels and the international Style (2020), Denmark in Britain: Architecture,
Design and Lifestyle (2023), DSB Design: Jens Nielsen og designprogrammet 1972-1992 (2024) and Art Deco
Scotland: Design and Architecture in the Jazz Age (2025).
Bruce has appeared in television documentary series on BBC1, BBC2, BBC4, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Arte.
Since 2008, he has been a regular contributor to Shippax.
