Further reflecting DAMPA’s desire to re-evoke successful
designs of the past in updated form, it is re-launching Rondella in a new wall-mounted interpretation that will enable
striking architectural effects to be achieved. Its revival arises
from DAMPA having been contacted by a longstanding client, the Aarhus-headquartered architecture practice of Friis
& Moltke. Its staff had recently been examining their archived
photographs and drawings, finding images of projects from
the 1980s which featured the original version of Rondella.
DAMPA received feedback that the design had great character in terms of form and the colours of its time and so
ought to be revisited.
Such a recommendation was a perfect reason to develop
an updated version, known as ‘DAMPA® Rondella’. The new
product is conceived as a decorative, and potentially acoustic, element for cladding entire surfaces, both ceilings and
walls. The curved design language allows for playful exploration of the surface expression through combinations of
elements in different widths and depths, which together create a distinctive and dynamic surface.
The design’s softly curved forms are likely to prove popular
and in line with current taste – as well as being functionally
highly effective – and it makes an ideal anniversary product
to celebrate DAMPA’s 75th year.

Concurrently, DAMPA’s designs will be appreciated in several notable new projects ashore and afloat. These include
airport terminal buildings at Illulissat and Nuuk in Greenland,
both designed by ZESO Architects, and a variety of cruise
ships.
Over three-quarters-of-a-century, DAMPA ceilings and walls
have been widely applied and may even have contributed to
Denmark’s admirable reputation for being a quiet and orderly nation.
