In the spring of 2026, a research collaboration between the
Aalborg University Design Lab and the industial designer
Mikkel Huse to investigate how old and damaged metal ceiling tiles could be re-used resulted in the development of
DAMPA® Drift panels, made by pressing soft, ripple-like
forms into the metal, incorporating existing imperfections.
With appropriately angled lighting, the resultant tiles make
subtle interplays of light and shadows to add atmosphere to
the spaces in which they are installed. The concept won the
prestigious International Forum (iF) Design Award for its
clever recycling of what would otherwise have been discarded items into beautiful and bespoke new additions for
interiors.
