Sustainability on
the agenda
DAMPA ceilings have very long lives and they contribute to
the overall sustainability of buildings. Being made of metal,
they are wholly recyclable with minimal climate impact.
In a majority of instances, ceilings that were installed
half-a-century ago still remain in good condition and can be
refurbished with local repairs, cleaning and re-lacquering.
One such example is the sensitive renovation completed in
2025 of the former headquarters of Østifternes Kreditforeningen in central Copenhagen, for which the current owner,
Realdania, employed Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.
DAMPA had supplied the original ceilings in 1957. Although
its usual product range no longer included panels of the
same size as the originals, it nonetheless re-equipped to
produce a new short run of the design to enable damaged
originals to be replaced with exact copies, while the majority
were merely cleaned and repaired. This was both practical
and sustainable, resulting in a beautiful outcome, wholly in
keeping with the elegant original design and acoustics –
and resulting in very little waste.
