In the latter 1980s, DAMPA entered into a research collaboration with the technical textiles maker Freudenberg to
develop a new type of acoustic felt, using a laminated textile
layer instead of the mineral wool used hitherto. This was
more environmentally agreeable, ensuring a better working
environment for installers and with no risk of dust fall. The
material was thus ideal for sensitive environments, such as
laboratories and premises for the watchmaking and optical
industries.
With acoustic properties equal to mineral wool at high sound
frequencies and superior at low frequencies, its development resulted in DAMPA being awarded the Danish Environmental Prize for Innovation. The launch in September 1989
involved a conference in Odense to which clients from
Scandinavia, Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and
Canada were invited. For inspiration, the delegates were
taken on a visit to Jesper Rasmussen’s architectural firm to
be shown design ideas.
A little over two years thereafter in February 1992, DAMPA
had a further success in product development when its
marine ceilings were awarded compliance certification from
Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.
