Already at the beginning of the 1980s, Dæmpa’s management had been early to perceive that a new design era was
commencing. In November 1980 the company organised
an international conference in Rio de Janeiro to which its
clients from around the world and also the architects and
designers of their buildings and interiors were invited. For a
company located in a small town in Denmark, this was a
very bold move and was surely reflective of high ambition.
The reason for the choice of location was that its licensee
there was prevented by the Brazilian government from
sending royalty payments to Denmark and so the conference enabled the money to be spent locally.
