A particularly notable contract received at the end of the
decade was to supply DCC for installation throughout the
very commodious interiors of three large Great Belt ‘Intercity’ train ferries for DSB – the Dronning Ingrid, Kronprins
Frederik and Prins Joachim, which entered service in 198081, the first coming from the Elsinore Shipyard and the latter
two from the yard in Nakskov. Their internal design by the
architect Kay Kørbing was notable for its crispness, spaciousness and for colour-coding to ensure that train passengers could easily remember where their carriage was
parked on the train deck below. Their success led to further
DSB ferry contracts for two large passenger and car ferries
to link Aarhus and Kalundborg, the Peder Paars and Niels
Klim of 1985 and 1986.
