Very quickly, the DCC system became very widely used in
Danish and north European shipbuilding. A prestigious project for the Elsinore Shipyard was to build a luxury cruise
ship, the Golden Odyssey, for the Greek shipowner Pericles
Panagopoulos’s Royal Cruise Line. Delivered in 1974, it was
the first ever to be purpose-built for cruising under the Greek
flag and, of course, its interiors had DCC ceilings throughout, including bespoke variants with tapering panels fitted
around circular architectural features.
Three large and outstandingly well-appointed overnight ferries for DFDS and for Tor Line North Sea routes – the Dana
Regina, built at the Aalborg shipyard and delivered in 1974,
and the Tor Britannia and Tor Scandinavia, constructed by
the Flender yard in Lübeck and completed in 1975 and 1976
– also all contained extensive installations of DCC.
